We were using the traditional quail feeders but between 15 and 25 percent of the food ended up on the floor and thrown out when cleaning.
We looked around and found these but they were for chickens so far too large for quails.
We decided to make our own so in 2023 we made these and food waste has dropped to almost zero.
There are 2 versions available.
Set of 4.
Curved back version is for fitting to a round bucket like in the video. The bucket we use has a 28 cm Diameter which is standard size for a 25 ltr bucket.
Straight back is for fitting too anything with flat sides.
Also available as an added extra there is a rain hood to protect the food, because our feeder is outside but undercover we have no need to use this with our quails.
You will need a 44 mm hole saw to cut the bucket or box. (Not Supplied)
There are 2 X 4.8 mm holes in the feeder 1 either side. I use a self tapping screw (Not Supplied) to attach it to the bucket or box. The screws fit from the outside so there are no sharp parts for the birds to hurt themselves on.
